As a young trombone player, I remember beginning pieces with endless rows of whole-notes. I also remember the kick I got the first time I got a piece with a juicy bassline. That is why all of my beginning pieces try to give everybody something interesting and motivating to play.

 

SRMusikk's pieces for beginning band are written for grade 1.5 or lower. Each piece strives to give each young musician an interesting part that lies within their skill range.

To take into account a wide variety of shapes, sizes and instrumentation, we have scored these pieces as four-part arrangements with percussion. Each part contains both melody and harmony parts. This way, the conductor can tailor the arrangement to the strengths, weaknesses and instrumentation of his or her ensemble. This kind of scoring also makes it possible for young musicians to perform the pieces as mixed duets, trios, quartets and other smaller ensembles. The arrangements are scored to work for both wind band and brass band instrumentation. A rehearsal piano part is also included.
